Plan passengers before coolers and chairs

The Yamaha has four designated seats, so the trip has a four-person maximum. Every person uses a fitted seat belt while the cart is moving. No child rides on a lap, in a cargo area or on a folded platform, and beach bags cannot occupy a person's seating or restraint space.

Glynn County requires a child under eight to be in a properly installed child passenger restraint unless the child weighs at least 40 pounds or is taller than four feet nine inches and may use the seat belt under the county rule. The renter chooses, supplies and installs the seat according to its manufacturer instructions. Install it before delivery-day excitement begins and confirm the child can be secured without routing the belt incorrectly.

Use a short, secure packing list

Bring water, broad-spectrum sunscreen, hats, towels, footwear for hot pavement, a compact shade option permitted at the beach, medications and a small first-aid kit. Add a dry bag for phones and the rental key. Keep the official route map and booking number accessible without unpacking the cart.

Use soft bags where possible and secure all gear below seatback height. Nothing should obscure the driver's view, mirror, lights or slow-moving emblem. Do not hang bags from steering controls or place hard items where a sudden stop can send them into a passenger.

Match the access point to your family's needs

Massengale Park has ADA-accessible beach mats, restrooms, picnic tables, grills and a playground—useful when different ages need breaks from the sand. Coast Guard/East Beach has ADA mats, restrooms, a seasonal third-party concession and parking open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Both locations have beach warning lights tied to National Weather Service information.

The warning-light system operates from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., but conditions can change. Park in a marked vehicle space, never on the beach or access path. Preserve accessible parking aisles and keep the cart out of fire lanes, loading areas and soft sand.

Ask about the water instead of reading it from shore

Weather permitting, county lifeguards are generally on duty from Massengale through Coast Guard access daily from the Saturday before Memorial Day to mid-August, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.; mid-August through Labor Day, coverage is generally weekends from 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Verify the lifeguard is actually present and ask about the current before anyone enters.

National Weather Service guidance says to check the surf forecast, swim near lifeguards, never swim alone and treat rip currents as possible even on a calm, sunny day. A darker or flatter gap between breaking waves can be the current moving offshore, not the safest place for a child to wade.

Teach the rip-current response in plain language

Rip currents pull people away from shore; they do not pull a swimmer under. If caught, do not fight straight against the flow. Relax, float or tread water, and move out of the current in a direction following the shoreline; then angle back toward the beach. If unable to escape, wave and yell for help.

If someone else is caught, alert the lifeguard or call 911. Throw something that floats and give verbal directions. Do not enter without flotation to attempt a rescue; would-be rescuers can become victims. Keep an undistracted adult water watcher close enough to act, even when a lifeguard is present.

Leave before the family is overheated or the storm is overhead

Water, shade and regular cool-down breaks matter more than finishing a scheduled number of hours. Reapply sunscreen at least every two hours and after swimming or toweling, and remember that sand and water reflect UV. Move children and vulnerable adults into air conditioning when heat is building.

At thunder, the beach day ends immediately. A golf-cart roof, beach umbrella or picnic shelter is not safe lightning shelter. Enter a substantial enclosed building or hard-topped enclosed vehicle, and wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder before returning outside.

Keep sand and fatigue from creating a bad ride home

Rinse or shake sand from feet, chairs and toys before loading. Dry hands before buckling children and handling controls. Secure wet towels so they cannot cover lights or trail into a wheel. Recount every passenger, buckle every belt and check that no one is carrying a hard object on a lap.

Take the same verified route home. Tired children and late-afternoon traffic are reasons to simplify, not add a final stop. At the property, remove the child restraint and wet gear only after the cart is parked, brake engaged and key removed.
